Rice is unarguebly one of the most popular staple foods in South East Asia and indeed across the world. It is cooked in various forms and recipes, however one of the most exotic and tasty rice we will be glad to find in any menu is the Singapore rice chicken.

Just as the name implies, this particular rice delicacy originated from the small South East Asian island city state of Singapore. What makes it the more interesting is that this delicious food can be easily prepared by any one at home and Blog4passion has come to show you how to go about it.

When rice is prepared in an exotic and spicy way

First of all, we will start with the materials and ingredients needed to get it done efficiently.


  • One full chicken
  • Ginger roots (two small pieces)
  • 3 tablespoon measures of vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoon measures of sesame oil (olive oil can be a good alternative)
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 2 blurbs of green onions
  • 3 cups of parboiled long grain rice
  • 2 fairly large tomato fruits
  • 1 cucumber
  • 3 blurbs of garlic
  • 2 shallots
  • Cilantro sprigs
  • 4 small measures of chicken stock

How To cook Singapore rice

  • Light your cooker and put a fairly big pot of water to boiling point. Add the three blurbs of garlic along with the two small pieces of ginger roots and onions. Sprinkle some salt to taste then add the chicken into the broth.
  • Leave the broth to steam and when it starts boiling, you cover the pot and bring it down. Let the chicken cook in the steam while turning it intermittently.
  • Meanwhile as the chicken is cooking, put the vegetable oil in a pan and heat it along with one tablespoon of the sesame oil/olive oil. Now add the ginger, garlic and the shallots and allow to fry. Put the cilantro as well as the rice and allow them to cook while stirring intermitently, you can also add dashes of garlic powder, seasoning and red pepper flakes. Add the chicken stock sprinkle salt on it then allow to cook well, you may need to decrease the heat considerably.
  • When you acertain that the chicken is well cooked (you may need to remove it from the pot and place it under the tap to make it strong and afterwards immerse lightly in sesame oil) you cut the chicken into sizeable chunks and add cucumber, cilantro, green onion and tomatoes and place them on the rice.
