It is also evident that life in the 21st century is so complex and full of activities that distract us and keep us awake till the dead of the night or even into the wee hours of the morning.
On the other hand, there are people too who value and cherish sleep, but due to a lot of factors like nature of work, distance between work place and home or even the menace of traffic gridlock that makes commuting between districts in our cities only possible at a snail pace.
Whichever one is the case, the importance of adequate sleep cannot be overemphasized and below are the reasons why you should always switch off the light, go under the sheets and hit the snooze button once the time is due.
- DO YOU WANT TO LIVE LONG?
I the answer to that question will most likely be in the affirmative. Now, do you know that there is a direct link between excessive sleep or inadequate sleep with less than optimal lifespan? In a particular study conducted in 2010 and involving women between the ages of 50 to 79 years, it was discovered that there were significantly more deaths in women who slept for five hours or less than those that slept for about seven hours. - FOR GOOD HEALTH
Several reliable researches have shown that adequate sleep is vital if you want to maintain a healthy life. Health problems like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity etc could develop or exacerbate due to insufficient sleep. - FOR GROWTH AND TO REPLENISH DEAD AND WORN OUT CELLS
Although this reason may find more importance in children, however, it also applies to adults too because we rebuild dead cells when we are asleep, so whether you are into body building or you need to boost your white blood cells or even your immunity to fight off diseases, then you need to sleep more adequately. - TO REDUCE FEELINGS OF PAIN
It’s a proven fact that sufficient sleep helps to minimize or deaden the feeling of pain, so if you’re having acute pain due to injury or sickness then you have another reason why you should have a sound sleep. - FOR VITALITY AND GOOD MEMORY
