When this classic horror film first appeared in 1988 as Child’s Play, not a few people had nightmares of the hideous and deadly Chucky: an illfated doll possesed by evill spirit that killed people who were unfortunate to cross its path.

Don Mancini has come again with a nascent version in 2017 that promises to elevate the horrors of old to whole new level. If Child’s Play of 1988 was a nightmare, then 2017 Cult of Chucky will scare the hell out of you. This is a continuation of the series after the preceding one (Curse of Chucky) appeared in 2013. The film lasted for over one hour and thirty minutes of suspense filled and roving horror scenes.

Actual production got underway in Canada in January 2017 and was premiered at the Fright Festival in London on the 24th of August 2017. Its final release on the DVD/Blu ray is scheduled for October and will be distributed by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

The Crew

Director: Don Mancini.

Produced by: David Kirschner and Ogden Gavanski

Written by: Don Mancini Music; Joseph LoDuca

Editor: Randy Bricker

The Cast

The characters were led by Brad Dourif (Chucky’s voice), Fiona Dourif (Nica Pierce), Alex Vincent (Andy Barclay), Jennifer Tilly (Tiffany), Summer H. Howell (Alice Pierce), Grace Lynn Kung (Claire).

The Plot

The story revolves around Nica Pierce who was wrongly accused of murdering her family members and thereafter was thought to be insane and was sent to a psychiatric home. While she was still there, they gave her a doll as an aid in her healing process. Their objective was a noble one, however, the supposed “Good Guy” doll turned out to be a harbinger of evill and before long, people started dying mysteriously in the asylum and the impression was that Nica Pierce could have a hand in the strings of death plaguing the ayslum. On the other hand, Chucky’s old time nemesis from the initial series now appears on the scene; fully grown and with an axe to grind. He swiftly came to the aid of Nica Pierce but there was a snag as Tiffany, Chucky’s old time lover still has a soft spot for him.

Critical Response

Cult of Chucky, also known as Child’s play seven is yet to be released, but if its record with the preceding series is anything to go by, then the viewers are in for a pleasant surprise.
