The Cast

The Mummy features great stars like Tom Cruise (Sergeant Nick Morton), Annabelle Wallis (Jennifer Halsey), Sofia Boutella (Princess Ahmanet), Jake Johnson (Corporal Chris Vail), Courtney B. Vance (Colonel Greenway), Russel Crowe (Dr. Henry Jekyll), Marwan Kenzari (Malik), Javier Botet (Set), Selva Rasalingam (King Menehptre).

Sergeant Nick Morton decided to make a living by scavenging through ancient sites looking for precious artifacts to excavate and sell in the black market. After a particular airstrike against their adversaries during battle, he accidentally came upon an ancient tomb that was unearthed by the airstrikes. A female archaeologist by the name Jennifer Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) was called upon to investigate the tomb, Jennifer Halsey incidentally has a soft spot for Nick Morton and after analysing the tomb, she discovered that it contained important ancient materials like a Sarcophagus containing Ahmanets mummy (Ahmanet was an ancient Egyptian princess), a lot of mercury and other objects.

They decided to move the consigment back to their country but during the flight, evil spirit came out from the Sarcophagus and attacked them in mid flight, causing the flight to crash, killing all on board the aircraft. However, Jennifer Halsey was able to survive because she escaped in a parachute with the help of Sergeant Nick Morton, who was believed to have died in the crash but miraculously woke up after being kept in the Morgue for a day. The arrival of the Sarcophagus in London could be likened to the opening of a Pandora’s box as it unleashed terror on the inhabitants of the city, turning people into zombies.

Critical Response

The Mummy received a rash of negative reviews and has an unenviable 16% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes with some of the bad comments emphasizing on the lack of originality and incoherent plot. However, give or take, The Mummy still has a lot of entertaining value to offer.
